What specifically characterises adolescents? What does it mean to be young at the beginning of the twenty-first century? "Handbook of Adolescent Development" fills a gap in the literature on adolescent development and behaviour: all of the authors of the various chapters have been invited to include as many findings on European adolescents as possible. Through this specific emphasis, the handbook provides a complement to other reviews of the literature that are mostly based on North American samples.
