| Extra Info | : | PROFESSOR RICHARD SENNETT, distinguished academic and author, is Professor of Sociology at the London School of Economics and Bemis Professor of Social Sciences at MIT. A leading thinker on urban social theory, he is the author of many books on the interconnection between authority, modernism and public life. His three most recent books are The Culture of New Capitalism (2006), Respect: The Formation of Character in an Age of Inequality (2003), and The Corrosion of Character (1999). Professor Sennett's topic for the Ernest Jones Lecture 2007 centres on the fate of the values associated with craftsmanship and achievement in a culture oriented to short-term gains. |
