Extra Info | : | On 6th June 1938, Anna Freud arrived in Dover, as a refugee. As the bombs began falling in London, she set about creating residential nurseries for children who were rendered homeless or refugees by the war. This presentation describes Anna Freud’s work in the Hampstead War Nurseries during WWII. It highlights the unexpected observations of the children’s reactions to the destruction of war and to separation from their families. Anna Freud realised how important the children’s earliest relationships were for their later development and showed that early intervention could mitigate the development of later emotional and behavioural difficulties. Rarely seen photos from the Hampstead War Nurseries will illustrate the presentation. |
