What is it about fashion that keeps so many of us enthralled, in spite of its well-known toxicity? Can the pleasures of clothing and adornment have any place in a responsible human future? This talk will explore the idea of fashion as a symptom — both personal and social — at the same time as considering its anti-hierarchical, hyper-social possibilities. Is fashion really all bad or might it have something to teach us about ourselves, and even about different forms of social organisation? |
