Event:The Squiggle Foundation Madeleine Davis Lecture 2022: 'The Body is no brain taxi' with Graham Music
Venue:Online
Date:26/11/2022
Duration:From 10am
Extra Info:“My talk will build on Winnicott’s seminal ideas on mind and its relation to the psyche soma, concepts that have been taken forward inspiringly by the likes of Corrigan (the Mind-Object), Bollas, Coltart and many others. The talk will look at patients who have never had a safe object to depend upon and have resorted to precocious minds to hold themselves together. It will look at the therapeutic challenges, and dangers of not recognizing these defences, and the importance of developing a body-aware approach to help build a new sense of safeness at the level of the nervous system as well as the psyche. Using slides and some video clips and introducing concepts such as safening and nervous system whispering, alongside classic Winnicottian themes such as regression and holding, the talk will aim to link psychoanalysis, neurobiology, attachment and current trauma theory.”
