Extra Info | : | This presentation is rooted in the assumption that the problem of racism today is one of whiteness, and that it is an examination of this construct, therefore, which needs to be central to seeking a solution to this destructive dynamic. Fanny Brewster, the author of The Racial Complex says: ‘Helen Morgan, in the Work of Whiteness, brilliantly takes to task the role of white privilege within social and psychoanalytic communities.’ Andrew Cooper, Professor of Social Work at The Tavistock Centre says: ‘Helen Morgan has written a challenging, compassionate, thoughtful, erudite and profoundly incisive book which directs our gaze to the largely hidden and uncomfortable phenomenon of Whiteness’. Stephen Frosh, Professor in the Dept. of Psychosocial studies, Birkbeck says: ‘This is a vital book for all of us who want to better understand how Whiteness does its work’. Frank Lowe, Consultant Social Worker and Psychoanalytic Psychotherapist, Tavistock Clinic says: ‘This book is a gift to us all because whiteness is an under examined notion that distorts humanity’. Clea McEnery West, Psychodynamic Practise says: ‘Morgan offers us a trenchant critique of the difficulties the psychoanalytic profession has in addressing racist bias in its theory, training and practise’. Helen Morgan is a Fellow of the British Psychotherapy Foundation and a training analyst and supervisor for the British Jungian Analytic Association within the BPF. Her background is in therapeutic communities with adolescents and in adult mental health. She has published a number of papers on racism, and her book ‘The Work of Whiteness. A psychoanalytic perspective’ was published by Routledge in May 2021. £50 for Non-Members £40 for AGIP Members £20 for Students and Trainees |
