| Extra Info | : | The Division of Counselling Psychology and its Conference Committee invite submissions for the 2022 Annual Conference which will be held online via webinars and video conferencing and also in person at the Royal College of Physicians in London, UK. Moving into a new year where we are adapting to a ‘new normal’, our theme interrogates professional and societal concerns. Issues such as Brexit and the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic continue to present anxieties e.g. social cohesion, individual and national identity as well as economic reconfiguration. The Covid-19 pandemic is an unprecedented crisis and in the UK it has been described as a turning point for mental health. The Health Foundation highlights the increasing recognition that the pandemic exacerbates racial inequalities embedded within all systems, nationally and internationally. In addition to Brexit and Covid-19, we are also faced with climate change issues, knife crime, terrorism, managing the impact of an ageing population, social injustice, poverty, human trafficking and slavery, addiction to prescribed/unprescribed drugs (and other forms of addiction), challenges in the National Health Service, and even the future of our psychology as a profession. We are also interested in understanding neurodiversity and gender diversity experiences better and the impact societal issues have on these experiences. The Edge of Awareness? invites delegates to reach beyond levels of awareness and recognition. How do we know what we don’t know? We hope that this conference is an opportunity to navigate, negotiate and reflect on our understanding of self, environment, and uncertainty. Potential strands to explore are: advocacy, motivation to work clinically, training programmes and training, cultural shifts, resilience, and the long-term impact of the Covid-19 pandemic. |
