About this event:

This talk will begin with discussion of the ABC-D of Boarding School Syndrome. This is the series of psychological traumas and sexual abuses that contribute to what, in 2011, I first classified as Boarding School Syndrome. The initials refer to the elements that constitute the multiple ordeals suffered by the children. They stand for: Abandonment, Bereavement, Captivity and Disassociation.

The premise is that going to boarding school at a young age may inflict emotional injuries with lasting psychological consequences. These early traumas leave children vulnerable to sexual advances from paedophile adults, school bullies and the confusing, sexually charged, solace found in dormitories with other children. This may have the long-term effect of distorting intimate relationships and adult sexuality. Research has led to an understanding of the enduring harm engendered by these events as presented in adult psychotherapy patients. It is hoped to engender lively exchange of ideas and experiences.
