Extra Info | : | This conference tackles the complex and controversial issue of how the medical model of prescribing psychotropic medication converges with the process-oriented and relational approach of psychotherapy - especially when both methods come together in the work with an individual patient. We have asked our speakers to first inform us of the nature of the current psychotropic drugs available, particularly for depression, anxiety and psychosis. Secondly, to consider how their effects might facilitate or hinder the work of psychotherapy. What might the psychotherapist expect from working with a client on certain drugs? What drug interventions might make it possible for someone to get to a starting point with a psychotherapist? When are drugs an obstacle to psychotherapeutic work? The conference will also ask if there is hope for new developments in psychopharmacology based on recent developments in affective neuroscience that are more finely tuned to specific emotional issues. |
