The Squiggle Foundation - 2013 Madeleine Davis Memorial Lecture.

The assessment of the adolescent patient brings with it a totally new dimension, in which the therapist’s thinking has to include and take into account the developmental status of the patient. From the adolescent’s point of view the external world has to be viewed through a new frame created by the changing reality of their recently acquired adult sexual body. In defining the impact of these physical changes on the adolescent’s mental functioning and developmental process, I want to compare it to the psychotic process.

Eglé Laufer is a training psychoanalyst who has been very much involved in research into adolescent development and pathology at the Brent Adolescent Centre. She is co author with Moses Laufer of Adolescence and Developmental Breakdown and coeditor with Moses Laufer of Development, Breakdown and Psychoanalytic Treatment in Adolescence.
