The therapeutic relationship is at the core of counselling training and practice, regardless of therapeutic approach. This book usefully introduces a cross-modality approach to the therapist-client encounter, drawing together aspects from integrative, psychodynamic and humanistic approaches to create a meta-model for practice. Each chapter introduces a typical client dilemma - i.e., resistance, deception, being too eager to please - and enacts the story of the client step-by-step. The authors show how you, as therapist, can interact with the clients dilemma, inviting you to directly engage in the drama. In this way, they provide a coherent framework within which to understand the relationship and the principles of their approach.

This book is highly recommended for any postgraduate Counselling and Psychotherapy trainee, whatever your therapeutic modality. It is a must-read for those studying Psychotherapeutic Counselling, with each chapter mapped onto real teaching and trainee concerns.
