Jungian Fundamentalism (and others) did not suggest itself due to the events of September 11th. It was proposed months before by Charles Boer on a walk to lunch from Eranos to the village of Ascona over an old Roman path in the cold, bright, Ticinese sunshine in February 2001. Prophetically, the theme of fundamentalism in religion and other areas has gripped the imagination of our times and probably will continue to do so for years to come. But what do we mean by the phrase, "Jungian Fundamentalism"? Is it intended as just another criticism of Jung and Jungians? Are the archetypalists at it again along with these new post-archetypalists (whoever the hell they are)? And what is meant by "others"? Does it have anything to do with French philosopher Jean-Paul Sartre's "L'enfer sont les autres (Hell are others)"? Or is it in any way connected to the fashionable ideas of the Jewish philosopher Jean Gebser's "Other"?
