As a respected psychoanalyst and artist, Ismond Rosen saw many similarities between his two professions, and felt strongly that one fed into the other. The creative demands on the analyst and analysand, he suggested, were mirrored in the creative process of the visual artist. These wry and perceptive cartoons take a mischievous look at the world of psychotherapy, gently satirising it while making some salient points about the roles of the therapist and the patient.
About the Author(s)
Ismond Rosen (1924-1996) was a psychoanalyst and artist. He studied at the École des Beaux-Arts and the Académie Julian in Paris. He then went to London and worked at the Maudsley and the Portman Clinic, and trained, in association with Anna Freud as a psychoanalyst. Complementing his psychiatry, he did psychoanalytic research at the Hampstead Clinic and practised privately, almost to the end of his life, while continuing his prolific work as an artist.
