This book takes as its starting-point the films Carl Rogers Counsels an Individual - Right to be Desperate and On Anger and Hurt, made in 1977, in which Carl Rogers worked with a black male client. There seems to have been very little in the way of examining issues of race, culture and ethnicity in person-centred therapy since Rogersi original work in the late 1940s.

Reviews and Endorsements

The twenty-plus chapters in this book, attempt in a small way to redress this imbalance. Many of them are written by person-centred practitioners who are concerned about, and seek the inclusion of, issues of race, culture and ethnicity in client-centred therapy. Through the investigation and exploration of these issues in 'a single case study' of one of Rogers' own demonstration films, this book in a sense hopes to generate multiple understandings of how person-centred therapy can be more inclusive of black and ethnic minority clients.
