The authors Judy and Mia are both children of mothers who committed suicide. In the book they examine the effects of a parental suicide based on their own experiences and those of sixty three other survivors.
This subject is, for many, taboo. The shame and secrecy that surrounds family suicides, often leave the children disorientated and unable to move through a normal grieving process. For some it is even considered a mortal sin.
The authors explore how best to bring support and strength to survivors, and I think that they have suceeded admirably in doing this. It is a book that will bring a wider understanding both to people who are survivors and also to the families and professionals who work with them.
