The best book yet on the father-son relationship. Diamond presents a psychoanalytically-informed understand of the complex dynamics in an understandable and reader-friendly way augmented by clinical vignettes, literary illustrations, and well-established empirical findings. I recommend this beautifully written book without hesitation.

I was deeply moved by this book both as a mental health professional and as a mother. In conveying complex ideas in an interesting and straightforward way without jargon, this book will be helpful to fathers and mothers (and their sons) as well as to more psychoanalytically oriented clinicians.

A scholary and yet easy to read book that delineates the nuances of the father-son relationship throughout the life cycle, the reciprocal impact each has on the other, as well as the essential facets of male development from a psychoanalytic perspective. A highly recommended read!
