With over one thousand entries, 'the Edinburgh International Encyclopaedia of Psychoanalysis' provides the best single-volume coverage of the field available. An international array of contributors encompass the most important authors, practitioners, concepts, movements, schools, debates and controversies in psychoanalysis, past and present, as well as its history and practice in forty-seven countries worldwide.

Reviews and Endorsements

Objective and catholic in vision, the Encyclopaedia demonstrates that psychoanalysis is a single discipline, greater than any particular movement, school or individual, including its founder, Freud. Précis essays examine schools in detail, with shorter explanations explaining all related key terms. The alphabetically arranged entries are fully cross-referenced, many with suggestions for further reading.

Those seeking more detailed accounts will enjoy illuminating essays by distinguished contributors including: Peter Fonagy, Michael Eigen, James Grotstein, Eric Laurent, Thomas Ogden, Paul Roazen, Hazel Barnes, Charles Brenner, Marcia Cavell, Morris Eagle, Murray Stein, Allan Schore, Robert Stolorow and Robert Wallerstein.

Both contributors and entries reflect the wide variety of disciplines that have contributed to or been influenced by psychoanalysis. An immense array of entries by psychoanalysts themselves sit alongside entries by psychiatrists, psychologists, psychotherapists, philosophers, medical researchers, historians, literary critics, anthropologists, linguists and other specialists.

The Encyclopaedia will provide a useful companion for practising psychoanalysts, as well as a comprehensive guide to the field for academics and health professionals in other areas.
