Publishing
with Karnac
Karnac is one of the few remaining independent publishers in
the UK. Having begun publishing psychoanalytic texts in the
1970s we continue to be the leading psychoanalytic publisher
in Britain, dedicated to psychoanalysis, psychotherapy, and
related subjects such as organisations, family, child, and adolescent
studies. |
| |
Karnac
Publications
Karnac publishes around 40 books a year in addition to four
different journals. We have always prided ourselves in publishing
classic psychoanalytic texts as well as books with contemporary
perspectives and ideas. We see ourselves as an important component
in the psychoanalytic world through which new ideas and approaches
can find their way to the wider readership. Our mission is to
enhance and distribute intellectual property. In addition to
bringing new books into the market, we are also reprinting classic
texts that have gone out of print. Being a small, specialized
publisher, it is possible for us to bring these books back to
print. |
| |
Karnac
Backlist
Our backlist consists of approximately 450 books and we like
to think that backlists have their own vital place in psychoanalytic
publishing alongside new books. The extensive Karnac backlist
includes classics by some of the great clinicians and psychoanalytic
scholars of the 20th century, including Wilfred Bion, Melanie
Klein, Anna Freud, Donald Winnicott, Sándor Ferenczi,
and S.H. Foulkes, and more recent books by Joseph Sandler, Masud
Khan, David Rosenfeld, André Green, and Donald Meltzer,
among others. |

The
Advantages of Publishing with Karnac
You'll find working with us is different to working with a large
publisher. We are large enough to have all resources needed
to serve our authors and other publishing partners, yet small
enough to provide personal attention and responsiveness to the
authors' needs. The editorial care and attention we can offer
makes us stand out from the bigger publishers. We also offer
high quality editorial production and printing throughout the
production process from signing a contract to getting the book
onto shelves. |

Submitting
Manuscripts
Karnac welcomes manuscript submissions from all sources. Please
send us a curriculum vitae, a one page abstract of the work,
an outline of the entire manuscript (table of contents) and
some sample chapters. In the accompanying letter, we would appreciate
it if you could outline what the primary market would be, when
you would be ready to submit the final manuscript, an approximate
length of the book and if there any books available at the moment
that yours could be compared to/expand on/challenge.
Please mail all submissions to:

We prefer to receive submissions by regular mail. We generally
respond to proposals submitted for consideration within three
months. |
