| Extra Info | : | This course will focus on what it means to 'identify with' someone else. The notion of identification is at the very heart of psychoanalytic thinking and practice. We shall consider the varieties of identification, their implications for human development and psychopathology on the one hand and psychoanalytic psychotherapy on the other. We shall address different levels on which identification works, complementing the approaches of Freud, Klein, Racker, Bion and other post-Kleinians, with considerations from academic developmental psychopathology.
The course is open to professionals in the field of mental health who already have some knowledge and experience of psychodynamic psychotherapy. We anticipate the majority of participants will be counsellors, psychiatrists, social workers, nurses and members of allied professions.
